John W. HornJohn W. Horn was born October 3, 1842, in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, and moved to Stark county in 1857. On October 29, 1861, at the age of 19 years, he enlisted in Company I, of the old 64th O.V.I., and served faithfully until the close of the war, and was mustered out December 3, 1865, having served four years and two months. His service was in the western army. He was at Shiloh, Stone River, and Chickamanga, at which last place he was desperately wounded in the head, from which he recovered sufficiently to return to duty about January 1, 1864. From that time until the close of the war he was with his command and was in the engagements at Rockeyface Ridge, Hesaoor, Kenesaw Mountain, Peach Tree creek; at Atlanta, through its attack and capture; Jonesboro, Georgia; Spring Hill, Tenn.; Franklin and Nashville. From thence he went with his command to Knoxville, Tenn., and thence to Texas,where he was mustered out. His rank was Sergeant. Detailed Records
