128th Ohio Infantry

128th Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry: Three Years' Service. Organized at Columbus, Johnson's Island, and Camp Cleveland, Ohio, from December 7, 1861, to January 8, 1864, t serve three years. Companies A, B, C, and D, were originally known as Hoffman's Battalion, and were transferred to this Regiment January 5, 1864. Principally engaged in guarding Rebel prisoners at Johnson's Island, Ohio, but had frequently furnished detachments for service elsewhere, including short but active campaign in pursuit of Rebel troops in West Virginia in 1862. Original members of Companies A and B were mustered out January 20, and February 28, 1865, by reason of expiration of term of service. The Regiment was mustered out July 13, 1865, in accordance with orders from the War Department.
