Francis Smith Post # 365Jackson OH. Chartered in 1884. Named in honor of local abolitionist Francis Smith who in 1861, at age 62 years, became the first volunteer in Capt Hoffmans company of the 18th Ohio Volunteer Infantry for 3 months service. Smith again enlisted in Co F 53rd OVI and was killed in action at Shiloh TN in 1862. He was the first man killed from Jackson County. Detailed Records
