McComb OH. Named in honor of John Howard, private of Co L 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery, who was accidentally shot and killed by a fellow comrade, David Horn, at Fort Mitchell KY Aug 14 1863. Pvt Howard was the first man killed in his regiment.
