In the Early days at Oak Hill, under questionable circumstance, 1862 found the 11,000 man Union Army, mostly Tennessee and Kentucky troops, under the command of General George W. Morgan retreating from Cumberland Gap, Tennessee. In a 17 day march to camp Wood in the small hamlets of Portland-Oak Hill, Ohio. Chased much of the way by a 600 man Rebel Calvary under the command of John Morgan. By October 7 when they arrived they were poorly fed and clothed. The Welsh Log church at Moriah was turned into a h...

I will be removing the ability to add and edit categories as of December 19th while I begin working on Infantry rosters. This feature will not return. Instead, a "suggest category" feature will be available. Since a majority of soldiers will be added there will be limited need to add categories or edit them.

On a site note, if you are adding soldier information in the category box please begin adding it as a record/listing. Records/listings will be searchable and easily exported to an excel style spreads...

I made an oopsie and need somebody to fix it for me. :(

I inadvertently put Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Wood County when it should be in Sandusky County. One side of the road there (US 23) is Sandusky County, and the other is Wood County. Chestnut Grove is on the Sandusky County side of the road.

I'd move it myself, but when I went into Edit mode, I could find no way to move the category to a different county. An admin's help would be greatly appreciated.

*bats eyelashes becomingly* :P...

I know the feeling....I have hundreds from Richland County cemeteries taken this summer as well as files sent to me from fellow researchers in the massive Spring Grove cemetery in Cincinnati and cemeteries in Knox and Warren Counties.

I've got lots of photos to post, taken on a couple of day trips to NW Ohio cemeteries this past October and November. More than enough to keep me busy and out of trouble for many an evening to come. ;)...

In some of the cemeteries I've done in the counties near me, we come across veterans buried who served in non-Ohio units. They can be listed in the appropriate cemetery listings with a notation of Non-Ohio unit. Even they arent soldiers from Ohio units which is our focus, we would rather have them included in any cemetery listing for researchers usage. Most of these veterans are men who moved to Ohio at some point in their life after the war.

Great work...keep em coming.

Good! 'Cause that's what I started doing after I posted my question. :P

I also have some photos of veterans' graves but have not been able to determine their regiments. For now, as long as I have the names and photos, I'll just post them under the Burials at the appropriate cemeteries and hope someone else can come along and identify their unit. I've been checking the Ancestry.com Civil War databases as well as the NPS Soldiers & Sailors System databases when the unit isn't known or identified....

Hi Kathleen...I was hoping you would want to cross post your great grave pictures in the Ohio Cemeteries database. I've been following behind you and linking your entries in their appropriate cemetery.
Its easy for you to do as well. When you go to add a grave photo record, it shows you the orginal folder the soldier is entered in (which is his regiment and company). Click on the directory line in the window underneath and it will take you to a list of directories. Click on the Ohio Cemeteries, then...

I hope this question isn't answered somewhere else and I was too stupid to see it (wouldn't be the first time :P ), but...

...about the Ohio Cemeteries archive and the category of Burials found under the different cemeteries' names. Would it be appropriate to link the various soldiers' graves I am uploading to appear not just under the regimental roster, but also the cemetery he's buried in?

If not, is there something specific we should be entering in the Ohio Cemeteries archive?...

I know you are:) I'm working on a lot of admin side items and getting ready for the next round of updates. I just need to make sure I'm going about it correctly and using any safeguards I have. The next update will put several thousand more categories in the tree so it's a pretty massive task. Thanks for your understanding in the meanwhile....
