Q: How do I compile a list of veterans buried in a particular cemetery?
Main Point: DO NOT add soldier's directly to the "Ohio Cemeteries" category. You will be utilizing the "Also Appear In Category" button located in the listing submission page while creating a "Grave: John Doe" listing in "John Doe's" category. You still initially add the soldier (John Doe) to his correct regiment and company and as a category.
Also See: How to submit a soldier thread in the "Directy & Archive" help forum.
Category: Ohio Cemeteries
The Steps:
STEP 1
A. Visit the appropriate county where the cemetery you are currently recording is located. This can be found in the main "Ohio Cemeteries" category.
B. Create your cemetery as a CATEGORY in the appropriate county.
C. Give the cemetery a common name that is widely used. Use the description field for location information and alternate names.
D. Now that the cemetery CATEGORY is created, create another CATEGORY inside the cemetery called BURIALS.
STEP 2
A. Back out of the "Ohio Cemeteries" category. You DO NOT ADD NAMES DIRECTLY into the "burials" CATEGORY
B. Add the soldier within their correct REGIMENTS and COMPANY. Remember you add soldiers as a CATEGORY. (see how to add soldiers thread in the "directory & archive" help forum.)
STEP 3
A.Once the soldier has been added as a category within his correct regiment and company you can begin adding detailed listings to and inside of his category. (see how to add a listing in the "directory & archive" help forum.)
B. Add a listing (make sure you click the ADD LISTING button when you are INSIDE of the soldier's category) and give it the title "Grave: John Doe" Replace John Doe with the soldiers name of course.
C.After you have filled in the information, prepared the grave image for uploading and PRIOR to submitting scroll up to the top of the page. You will see a word called "MANAGE", If the category option box is not showing click that word called "MANAGE"
D. Using the "BACK" button located in the MANAGE feature (not the browser's back button) go back until you reach all of the main categories.
E. Find the category called "Ohio Cemeteries" and continue clicking the appropriate categories until you come to the "BURIALS" category located in the correct cemetery category you just created. CLICK IT so you are in the "BURIALS" category.
F. You're not done. Make sure (let me all caps that...MAKE SURE) you click the "Also Appear In" button and it pops up on the screen.
G. Check over your posting and make sure it is accurate.... the maps and location fields are as complete as can be.... the image is selected.....etc.....
H. NOW SUBMIT
End Tutorial
Your "Grave: John Doe" listing will now appear in more than one category and you are on your way to compiling both a roster and a cemetery record. Now, print this out. Give it a whirl. Go slow. And don't worry.....you can edit all of your listings. Good job!
